Corinthians Show up Short

Cucuy FC - 2nd Corinthians FC 5:3 (0:0)

2nd Corinthians is that young team that you always dread playing because you know they’re going to run for the full 90 minutes.  They play a mature style of soccer for their age and the main edge we have on them is body size, which allows us to control the game from a physical angle.  However, we didn’t have to do so as much this Sunday because Corinthians started the game with 8 players on the field.

Despite playing several players down, Corinthians made good use of what they had.  We weren’t playing urgently and as a result we didn’t score any goals in the first half even though we were up several men.  The flood gates opened in the second half though.  Corinthians defense started getting tired as you would expect and we started finding Cucuy players open in their 18.  Scott Dollar scored two in the second half; another great header reminiscent of his Cinco goal, and an tight angle shot where he beat the keeper near post.   Huczek had two for himself that came from hard, Huczek style shots where he was left unmarked in the box.  He nearly completed his hat trick a couple of times.  Cary had one of his own similar to Scott Dollar’s off angle goal, except Cary went far post.

Just as we went up 3 or 4 to nothing, Corinthians kept it interesting and scored a couple of their own.  They had players trickle in one after another, and by the end of the game they were playing down only one man.  They gave us a little scare and I think at one point it was 4-2.  We gave ourselves a buffer again with 5-2, and then Corinthians relentlessly made it 5-3.  We shut it down for a last couple of minutes to seal the win.
