Payback Time Against S.A. Elite

Cucuy FC - S.A. Elite 8:2

At the Cinco de Mayo we lost 3:1 against these guys but this time it was a different game. Here are Karol's comments about the game: "They played with their studs from Cinco de Mayo Tourney. Kyle Robinson did really well in goal. The new guy Tim Verret played great as a stopper. Our defensive line deserved the MVP. They actually fed us balls from the back, which made our life easier. It was a good game for us to get ready for the fall season."

Glueckwunsch to CNate who is now the top scorer of the season!

Goals: CNate (2), Karol (2), Hattrick, Schluni, Brent, Scotty
MVP: Defensive Line (Brent, Tim, Shawn, Marty, Justin)

Another Loss Against Mercenary

Mercenary FC - Cucuy FC 6:3 (3:2)

In the past we had a tie and a loss against Mercenary, so we new this would be a good game. The first half we were down 3:2 but that included 2 penalty kicks for Mercenary, one of which was completely unwarranted, and one that was definitely warranted. Dave H. scored twice to bring us back in the game (his first Cucuy Doppelpack), and we had two more posts and a crossbar shot so it could have easily been a tie. Then Mercenary lost a player to a red card so we had high hopes for the second half. Well, things didn't turn out as planned. We gave up some great chances on offense and made some errors on defense so in the end it was not enough. This was also Ryan's last game with Cucuy, since we are going to trade him to a Seattle team for an undisclosed transfer amount. Good luck in Seattle, and stop by if you're in the area!

Goal: Dave H. (2), Raul
MVP: Dave H.

Cucuy No Match for the Machine

The Machine - Cucuy FC 9:1 (5:0)

In a recent interview, Oliver Kahn said that he learned most in the games that he lost. There was a lot to learn from the Machine. I guess the positive thing to take from the game was that although it was the highest loss that Cucuy ever suffered (as far as I remember), nobody on our team gave up, everybody was fighting to the last minute. Except for Cory, who fought until the third minute and then injured himself. Cory, Cory, was ist los? Wo ist Dein Red Bull? Play of the match was by CNate who chased down Karol's pass and set up Okan for the goal of honor.

Goal: Okan
MVP: Brent, who prevented worse.

Clear Win for Real Azteca

Real Azteca - Cucuy FC 4:1 (3:0)

Our current record against Real Azteca was 3 wins and a draw, now we can add a loss to it, so ein Mist. We had the upper hand for about 15 minutes but then Azteca slowly picked up the pace, or maybe we just got slower. Although they did not have that many chances they took advantage of those they had, especially on counter attacks. We probably had as many chances but just could not finish. In second half we briefly got our hopes up after Karol hit a nice free kick about 22 yards out into the right corner. Then Brent should have scored after a great header but the keeper somewhat miraculously saved it. Hintzi also had a nice shot from the top of the box but the keeper saved that one as well. In the end Azteca got a penalty after a slide by Brent in the box that really did not look like foul from my point of view, but whatever, did not make a difference anyway. Too bad Cory did not make it otherwise we would have known it was all his fault.

Old School Blowout

Cucuy FC - SA Old School 14:1 (5:0)

Probably Cucuy's highest win ever, and one of the most boring games too. Some of the goals were quite good though, including Brent's header, Dave H.'s goal, and Schluni's upper ninety. Thanks to Birke for coming all the way for this from Schertz.

Lucky Win for Rangers

Cucuy FC - Rangers FC 0:1 (0:0)

Well, that was a game I hope I'll forget about quickly. First half was about even with chances on both sides. CNate saved our butts at least twice to keep the draw at half time. Second half we dominated like I've rarely seen. Almost like against the Bomberos, except that we didn't manage to score. So it had to come like it always does, Rangers show up for the second time (and last) time in front of our goal and score the only goal of the game. I couldn't see if it was offsides, but from Jason's and Brent's reaction it shouldn't have counted. When's Cary coming back again?

Goals: Leider nix
MVP: CNate

Mother's Day Match is First Win of the Season

Los Bomberos - Cucuy FC 0:9 (0:6)

Both teams started with all the players that did not have to be at Mom's until noon. Pretty soon it became clear this wouldn't be much more than a practice game. But, it was still fun to play. And I think first half we did kind of take the game seriously. In any case, we had a bunch of great goals and a chance to try out a bunch of new things. Second half, which was cut to 30 minutes, we could have scored at least 10 more goals but instead decided to get rid of a bunch of bad luck, which is a good thing. I'm sure next game will be much more of a challenge. MVP goes to Kyle for a sweet goal and a number of great set ups.

Goals: Eddy (4), Karol (3), Kyle (1), Rey (1)
MVP: Kyle

Cinquo de Mayo Tournament

No game for three weeks and then three games in one day. Sure glad Karol invited a couple of extras to help us out. The first game against SASA SA Elite started out great: Schluni scored the first goal, but in second half we gave up three. The second game we played HFA Gold Diggers beating them 2:0. Jimbo scored the first goal followed by the goal of the day, a header by Ben after a cross from Karol. To advance we simply had to beat SASA Fort Sam in the third game. That turned out to be harder than expected. Looks like the guys from Fort Sam really do some running in their spare time. In the end there was not much to win in this one and we lost 3:0. Karl in goal prevented worse.

Cory put together some highlights of the affair available here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7L56CFK0
Check it out if you want to see the talking football boot, Ivan's erasing tackle, or Nick getting de-cleated by Brittney Spears.

Although we did not advance I had a great time, thanks to Karol's organizing, Cory's T-shirt printing, January's sandwiches, and Alex' homemade granola. We should definitely do this again next year.

Cucuy Still Waiting for First Win of the Season

Cucuy FC - Thunder Club 0:3 (0:1)

I think we could have done better, but luck was not on our side today. Surprisingly, I thought we played better in second half against the wind, and windy it was. We could have tied the game early second half after Karol passed a free kick to Dan who passed it back to the middle where Schluni got a shot off that was barely saved by the keeper. Verdammter Mist. Scotty, Karol, and then Brent got great chances, but Thunder's goal was bricked up today. Towards the end it started to show that we did not have any subs today. Cary, you're sorely missed. We wish you the best for a quick recovery!

Kyle Saves the Tie in Season Opener

Cucuy FC - Boca 2:2 (0:0)

Since we're having the play-offs for the spring season on April 26 I'm still not sure if this game counts anything or not, only Carlos knows. Actually, I doubt that. In any case, with Birke back from suspension (?) I think we played pretty good, had some of the best passing I have seen in a while. Cary being out of town we just had a little trouble finding the back of the net. Dan, Rey, Brent, and Kyle had a bunch of close ones but didn't quite finish. Second half we continued dominating but found ourselves down 0:1 and then 0:2 after two avoidable goals. With 15 minutes to go Rey finally scored for the 1:2, and soon after Kyle finished for the tie. With a couple more minutes we might have turned this one around but still, a pretty good comeback.

Goals: Kyle, Rey
MVP: Karol

Cucuy Beat Young Guns in Season Finale

Young Guns - Cucuy FC 1:4 (0:3)

Thanks to Dan's call we got the wind for the first half, which was probably the best he did all game. In any case, we had the upper hand first half and Cary scored off a cross from Nick for the first goal. Karol scored the second, a header that came off the crossbar after a nice rip from Scotty. Then Cary had another great moment, scoring the third goal from the left with his outside left in to the far upper ninety. Just beautiful. Young Guns had a lot of chances though but our defense didn't give up a goal, thanks to CNate who had two great saves and Nick who saved the ball off the line after a corner.

Playing against the wind, second half was the total opposite. Rarely have I seen a team so dominant with so many chances, and so little luck, talking about the Young Guns here. Dan took a permanent break after a red card for saving a header with his hand on the line. Is that what they teach you in France? Whatever, Young Guns missed that penalty. Two minutes later, Young Guns got their second penalty after CNate and I took down a striker in the box in a somewhat illegal way, but CNate guessed the right corner and saved that one. In one of our rare appearances in the other half, Karol marked the 4:0, and just before the end Young Guns finally scored the 4:1 Ehrentreffer. This should have probably gotten us into the playoffs, we'll see.

Goals: Karol (2), Cary (2)
MVP: CNate (Staring down the first penalty and saving the second).

Detonators Stonewall Cucuy

Detonators - Cucuy FC 0:0 (0:0)

It was good to have Karol, Scotty, and Cary back. But even with our full squad we were unable to score. We controlled the game for 90 minutes, had tons of chances, but Detonators played excellent defense, and their keeper new what he was doing. Since Cory was running the subs I guess it was all his fault. MVP goes to Dave H. (is that the Firedave?) for stepping up his game as defensive mid.

No game next week for spring break, but we may have a pickup on Saturday. A couple of guys will also have a round of Golf on Sunday, email Nick if you're interested.

Goals: Kein Tor, schade.
MVP: Dave H.

Cucuy Run Over by Storm

Storm - Cucuy FC 5:0 (2:0)

No chance for us in this game. We tied Storm in our last encounter with a full squad, so without Cary, Karol, Gus, and Scotty there was not a lot of hope for this one. Playing against the wind I think we only crossed twice into Storm territory in the first half. Pretty much one-way street soccer. A nice freekick from Birke was the sole Cucuy highlight. Second half we fought on but even with the wind we could not do much damage. Dave H. and twice Ryan had a chance to score but in the end this was not our day. Thanks to Mike for helping out and a great job done in midfield. Thanks also to Cory for promising not to send anymore pictures of his butt.

Tough Fight Ends in Draw

Real Azteca - Cucuy FC 0:0 (0:0)

A fast and physical game on a bumpy Schertz field ended with a draw that I think we can live with. The field made it pretty hard to pass and control the game. First half Azteca had definitely the upper hand but could not get passed Cory who had a bunch of great saves. Then Hattrick injured a finger and had to sub out. Shortly after, an Azteca player got hit hard in the face during a header challenge, which resulted in a red card for Jason K. although the contact seemed accidental. Second half we did pretty good with only 10 guys, mostly defending and trying our luck with counter attacks. First Jo and then Karol almost scored the winning goal but that might have been too much. In the end Cory saved the draw with another nice save after an indirect free kick in the box. Whatever you're having before the game, keep drinking it. MVP goes to Scotty who shut down the Azteca midfield and probably ran more than anybody on the field today.

Goals: None
MVP: Scotty

Win Over Military is Third in a Row

Cucuy FC - Military FC 4:1 (3:1)

Not the greatest performance of all times, this one. Overall the score was a little too high in my view but whatever. Karol scored the first one directly off a corner kick. Is this the second one this season? The second goal, a shot in the long corner after a Military defender verdribbelt the ball. Then Military came back with a respectable shot for the 2:1 and would have tied it if not for Katze Cory. Nobody was really sure how he stopped that middle-height shot out of 5 yards with one hand, but we all saw it. Miller time. Then Gus headed one in for the 3:1 right before twisting his knee pretty bad. Hope you're back soon! Other highlights: a great shot from CNate about 25 yards out that the keeper barely saved. Nate, keep up that shooting practice!

Second half was pretty even game, chances on both sides but no score, until Rey chased down a long pass and somehow got passed three defenders and put it away. See how easy it is Karol? After the game we got some Freetail brewskis because Ryan thought one (1) six-pack is probably enough for the team. Wie bitte?

Thanks to Andy and New-Nate for helping out.

Goals: Karol, Eddy, Gus, Rey
MVP: Cory (Twice in a row? WTF?)

Cucuy Beats Chelsea, Chelsea Fires Coach

Chelsea - Cucuy FC 0:2 (0:1)

Nice job against a pretty fast and well passing Chelsea team that we tied 3:3 only a few months ago. We won this one because of a better team effort, physical play, and a great defense. It was also good to have Gus and CNate back, and Jason K. seems to find his way around Cucuy style soccer better with every game. Scotty did a hell of job running down Chelsea's midfield.

I think we started off better than Chelsea, got a couple of nice chances and then Gus finished for the 0:1 with a nice turn-n-shoot that bounced in the goal off the left post. Cory then had a chance to show off skill when he saved a tough shot by diving Kahn-like into the short corner. Second half Chelsea had the better chances but couldn't finish thanks to Brent, Hattrick, Dave H., and CNate. Karol then put a damper on Chelsea's efforts by nailing a shot from left inside the box over the keeper into the long corner. Laserbeam!

Chelsea management, unhappy with the team's performance decided to fire their coach today (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=617598&sec=england&campaign=rss&source=soccernet&&cc=5901).

Defense Holds Up Despite Cory's Best Efforts

Saturday United - Cucuy FC 2:3 (1:1)

The game was pretty balanced overall, SU having the better passing game and the upper hand in midfield, while we dominated with our defense, and made better use of our chances. Eddy scored the first goal with a nice shot from the far left side that may have looked like a bad cross to the untrained eye. SU then tied the game by lobbing a high ball into the penalty box that slipped past Cory and kullert into the goal.

Second half we put on the pressure for about 5 minutes, forced a bad pass by SU that Cary picked up, who then run a circle around the SU sweeper and finished it off with a shot in the far corner. The goal of the day definitely goes to Karol however, who had an amazing free-kick goal from about 25 yards on the right into the left upper-ninety. After that goal SU picked up the speed and created lots of chances, but our defense held up pretty well until the Red Bull and weeks of UFC kicked in and Cory decided to take things into his own hands. Although he had the SU striker in a submission hold, and according to CNate he never tapped out, the ref saw some wrongdoing and decided on a penalty kick. Maybe Cory just wanted to show off his Elfmetertoeter skills, anyway, that shot went in. SU had some more chances to tie the game but in the end we came out ahead as the lucky winners.

Goals: Eddy, Cary, Karol
MVP: Brent

Mercenary Ties Game at Last Second

Mercenary FC - Cucuy FC 3:3 (0:1)

Given that Mercenary send us home with a 4:0 the last time we played them I would have been ok with a tie before the game. But getting a goal in overtime is always crappy, especially when it takes away the win. In any case, I think we had a pretty solid performance.

First half was pretty even, so we could not complain about the one goal lead after an Abstauber from Cary. Second half Mercenaries came out and scored before we even knew what happened. Cary then scored the 2:1 which was a really great goal after a series of one-touch passes. Beauty is the absence of luck! Mercenaries tied up the game a few minutes later. Cory can give you a play-by-play of what he was thinking on this one. Besides that Aussetzer, Cory had a great game though with a bunch of nice saves. Jason K., the new kid, filled in for CNate and did a good job keeping the defenders busy, and scored what should have been the winning goal after a great pass from David H.

Goals: Cary (2), Jason K.
MVP: Karol

Cucuy Continues Winning Streak

Cucuy FC - Rangers FC 3:1 (1:0)

Rangers is a pretty good team with good passing and some speed on top, but some problems on defense. They definitely could not match up with CNate who ran circles around them all game, and provided a nice setup for the first goal.

Second half, Cary had a nice shot for the 2:0, but Rangers came back with the 2:1 after a miscommunication between Brent and Cory (B: "Keeper!" - C: "Not quite!") Dave H. then finished off the game with the 3:1 after Cary had outsprinted the keeper for the ball and passed it off to Dave. Cory saved our butts at least twice with two very decent saves. Both Cary and Cory deserved the MVP this time as well.

Thanks also to Dan who came straight from his going-away party and played surprisingly well for the circumstances.

Goals: Eddy, Cary, Dave H.
MVP: CNate

PS: Heard that Rahul broke both his nose and his clavicle in the last game. We hope you get better soon! Carl will also be out for a long time, it seems his ACL did not hold up.

Cucuy Turns Game in Second Half for First Spring Season Win

Cucuy FC - Azteca FC 3:2 (1:2)

The penalty that turned the game in our favor was completely undeserved, but overall I think we were the better team. First half we squandered chances enough for two games. Then the Azteca keeper took out Rahul who apparently suffered a broken nose. Aztecas scored on the first real chance, and almost scored again if it wasn't for Katze Cory who denied the shot. Brent tied the game with his trademark header after a corner from Karol, but Azteca came back with a header on their own leaving Cory no chance.

Second half we continued dominating and Karol first tied the game with a nice turn-shot from 18 yards out, then buried the penalty for the win. Azteca scored close to the end but the goal was a clear off-side and denied.

Goals: Karol (2), Brent
MVP: Dave S.
